The intent of the project was to improve the alignment of Bear Tavern Road and replace two structurally deficient bridges. The work included complete demolition and removal of existing Bridge No. 4-215.1, Bridge No. 214.2 and an existing masonry wall along Bear Tavern Rd. The replacement structure for Bridge No. 4-215.1 consisted of a three sided precast concrete culvert supported on cast in place substructure. Bridge No. 214.2 consisted of a steel curved plate girder superstructure supported on cast in place concrete substructure. The project also included construction of three retaining walls, two cast-in-place walls and one precast L-shape concrete wall. The work included historical stone facing on the exposed surfaces of the abutments and walls, realignment of Bear Tavern Rd., paving, guide rail, sidewalks, curbs, new stormwater drainage system, water main relocation, rock cut slopes, and traffic signs.
